Gabija Birina born in 1990. Latvia, Riga. She graduated Ballet School in Latvia, studied with Latvian National Ballet.

 

Gabija entered contemporary dance world with Kopenhagen National School of Contemporary Dance. Then she worked with choreographers from Europe and danced modern ballet with IR Chamber Ballet, Dance Theatre Stars Well. Together they performed in many Festivals around the world - Sweden ‘’STOFF’' Stocholm Fringe Fest,  Israel International Contemporary Dance Festival 'SUKKOT'', France and Turkey. In 2015 Gabija visited OFF JAZZ summer program in Nice, France where she fell in love with Contemporary Jazz dance. Gabija danced with Ligas Libertes Dance Theater where she learned a strong contemporary jazz tehnique and participate in many performances. While Gabija danced in many projects as Cabaret shows, comercials, public events and many others she travelled and took a dance classes in NY (Millenium Dance), Broadway Dance center, London and LA (EDGE, Millenium Dance Center). Her favorite choreographer is Ryan Heffington so she took his classes in his studio in LA. In 2016 Gabija started to collaborate with world famous Bolivian-American interdisciplinary artist artist Donna Huanca and participate in her immersive performances. Donnas exhibitions were huge experience, they took a part in Berlin, London, Shanghai and Basel huge world wide fair ART BASEL. In latest five years Gabija started to work with accomplished Latvian artists - singer, songwriter and pianist Katrina Gupalo and pianist Andrejs Osokins. They had created an crossover Jazz Theatre concert show "AFTER MIDNIGHT" held in more than 20 concert halls in Latvia. “After Midnight” has received a great critique at the London Camden Fringe Festival: "Jazz Theatre After Midnight feels like you’ve been invited down the rabbit hole by David Lynch and what you find at the bottom is a bag full of beautiful and bizarre tricks." --
